  • TOC

    Total Organic Carbon
  • TOC (Total Organic Carbon)

  • Toe of Weld

The junction between the face of a weld and the base material.
  • Tolerance

Tolerance is the permissible deviation from a specified value.
  • Tolerance

A form of genetic resistance in which an organism attacked or affected by a disease pathogen (or pest) exhibits less reduction in yield or performance in comparison with members of other affected cultivars or breeds.
  • Ton of Refrigeration

A unit used to indicate the size of a refrigeration unit. One ton of refrigeration effect is equivalent to removing 12,000 Btu/hr of heat, or melting one ton of ice in a 24-hour period.
  • TOP

    Turnover Package
  • Top-Down Design

Pertaining to design methodology that starts with the highest level of abstraction and proceeds through progressively lower levels.
  • Top-Down Estimate

“Rule of Thumb” estimate based upon an overall project estimate using only one parameter to determine the value (i.e., level of required regulatory compliance, square footage, similar building type, similar systems comparison).
  • Top-Down Project

Project initiated by a business owner wanting a capability installed to discover or manufacture a product.
  • Topical

A medication applied to the skin, an ointment. Usually a medicament suspended in a carrier such as petrolatum or another oil based carrier. Filtration at elevated temperatures is usually possible.
  • Topical Product

A pharmaceutical product meant to be applied to the skin or soft tissue in the form of liquid, cream, or ointment, and therefore needs not be aseptic. Sterile ophthalmic products throughout are manufactured aseptically.
  • Tor

An obsolete unit of pressure equal to that exerted by a column of mercury 1mm high at 0°C and standard gravity (1mm Hg); named after Evangelista Torricelli (1608-1647), the inventor of the mercury barometer. 1 Torr = 1/760 atm = 133.322 Pa.
  • Total Airflow Rate

Air volume that passes through a section of an installation in unit of time.
  • Total Bacteria Count

An estimation of the total number of bacteria in a sample based usually on Standard Methods procedures for collecting, incubating, and counting colony-forming units (cfu).
  • Total Carbon (TC)

Total concentration of carbon (organic and inorganic) in a sample.
  • Total Dissolved Solids (TDS)

The term used to describe inorganic ions in the water. Usually measured by measuring the electrical conductance of the water corrected to 25°C.
  • Total Heat (TH)

The sum of sensible heat and latent heat.
  • Total Inorganic Carbon (TIC)

Total concentration of carbon as carbonates, bicorbanates, or dissolved carbon dioxide.
  • Total Ionized Solids

Concentration of dissolved ions in solution expressed in concentration units of Sodium Chloride (NaCl). It determines the operating life of ion exchange resins and is calculated from measurements of Specific Resistance.
  • Total Organic Carbon (TOC)

Measure of organics in water by their Carbon content. This is one of the parameters used to determine the purity of Semiconductor Grade water. Feed water will have TOC measured in parts per million. UPW will have TOC measured in parts per billion (ppb).
  • Total Organic Carbon (TOC)

A measure of the level of organic impurities in water by their carbon content that determines the operating life of activated carbon beds. This is one of the parameters used to determine the purity of Semiconductor Grade water. Feed water will have TOC measured in ppm (parts per million), and ultrapure water (UPW) will have TOC measured in ppb (parts per billion).
  • Total Solids

Total solids in water include both dissolved and suspended solids. Determined by weighing sample before and after evaporation.
  • Touch Screen

A touch sensitive display screen that uses a clear panel over or on the screen surface. The panel is a matrix of cells, an input device, that transmits pressure information to the software.
  • Touch Sensitive

(ANSI) Pertaining to a device that allows a user to interact with a computer system by touching an area on the surface of the device with a finger, pencil, or other object, e.g., a touch sensitive keypad or screen.
