A sex chromosome that is characteristic of male zygotes in species in which the male typically has two unlike sex chromosomes.
  • YAC

    Yeast Artificial Chromosome
  • Yeast Artificial Chromosome (YAC)

A vector used to clone DNA fragments (up to 400 kb); it is constructed from the telomeric, centromeric, and replication origin sequences needed for replication in yeast cells.
  • Yeast Cloning Vectors

The yeasts, and especially Saccaromyces cerevisiae, are favorite organisms in which to clone and express DNA. They are eukaryotes, and so can splice out introns, the non-coding sequences in the middle of many eukaryotic genes.
  • Yeasts

Unicellular fungi belonging mainly to the Ascomycetes that usually multiply by budding. Their commercial significance lies in their ability to secrete enzymes. For example, in the brewing and baking industries, it is a source of vitamins and proteins. They can also be used as excipients in rDNA technology.
  • Yield, Expected

(ICH Q7) The quantity of material or the percentage of theoretical yield anticipated at any appropriate phase of production based on previous laboratory, pilot scale, or manufacturing data.
  • Yield, Theoretical

(ICH Q7) The quantity that would be produced at any appropriate phase of production, based upon the quantity of material to be used, in the absence of any loss or error in actual production.
  • Ymodem

An asynchronous file transfer protocol identical to Xmodem-1K plus batch file transfer (also called Ymodem batch). Ymodem-G transmits without acknowledgement (for error-free channels or when modems are self correcting), but transmission is cancelled upon any error.
