  • TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas)

  • TIMA

    Thermal Insulation Manufacturers Association
  • Time Sharing

(IEEE) A mode of operation that permits two or more users to execute computer programs concurrently on the same computer system by interleaving the execution of their programs. May be implemented by time slicing, priority-based interrupts, or other scheduling methods.
  • Time Stamp

A part of the audit trail that clearly documents the sequence of events in human terms, helping to authenticate an electronic signature and minimizing the chances of signer repudiation. A local time stamp correlates with the whereabouts of the signer. With client-server data systems used by international companies and records accessed from remote sites (such as on business trips), time stamps that reflect the local time of only the user might make the sequence of actions for an individual record appear inconsistent. For example, the approval by a peer reviewer could be signed at 9:00 a.m. on a chromatographic analysis that was performed at 11:00 a.m. in a different time zone. Local time stamps should probably be supplemented consistently with the time stamp of a remote server, with one stamp clearly labeled as local.
  • Time-of-Flight Particle Measurement

Measurement of aerodynamic particle diameter determined by the time required for traveling the distance of two fixed planes.NOTE: This measurement utilizes the particle velocity shift caused when a particle is introduced into the flow field with different velocity.
  • Timing

(IEEE) The process of estimating or measuring the amount of execution time required for a software system or component.
  • Timing Analyzer

(IEEE) A software tool that estimates or measures the execution time of a computer program or portion of a computer program, either by summing the execution times of the instructions along specified paths or by inserting probes at specified points in the program and measuring the execution time between probes.
  • Timing and Sizing Analysis

(IEEE) Analysis of the safety implications of safety-critical requirements that relate to execution time, clock time, and memory allocation.
  • Tincture of Iodine

A germicidal solution of iodine in aqueous alcohol used primarily as antiseptic on skin and tissue.
  • TIS

    Total Ionized Solids
  • Tissue

(21 CFR Part 1270) Human tissue intended for transplantation that is recovered, processed, stored or distributed by methods that do not change tissue function or characteristics and that is not currently regulated as a human drug, biological product, or medical device. Examples of such tissues are bone, skin. Corneas, ligament, and tendon.
  • Tissue Culture

Growing mammalian cells in the laboratory in a tissue culture medium (in vitro). For example, this allows researchers to determine the effects of various chemicals on mammalian cells without experimenting directly on live animals or man. Since a molecule of some toxic substances can harm a single mammalian cell, even one part-per-billion of some impurities can affect a tissue culture. Therefore, water used to make up tissue culture media should be extremely pure.
  • Tissue Plasminogen Activator (tPA)

A protein produced in small amounts in the body that aids in dissolving blood clots.
  • Titer

A measured sample – the strength of a solution or the concentration of a substance (as an antibody) in solution as determined by titration.
  • Titration

Volumetric analysis by means of the addition of definite amounts of a test solution to a solution of a known amount of the substance analyzed.
  • Titre

  • TLC

    Thin-Layer Chromatography
  • TLV

    Threshold Limit Value
  • TLV (Threshold Limit Value)

An ACGIH designated degree of exposure to contaminants and expressed as parts of vapor or gas per million parts of air by volume at 25°C and 760mmHG pressure, or as approximate milligrams or particulate per cubic meter of air (mg/m³). An exposure level under which most people can work consistently for 8 hours a day, with no harmful effects. TLVs are listed as either an 8-hour TWA or a 15-minute STEL.
  • TM

    Traceability Matrix
  • TMP

    Total Productive Maintenance
  • TNF

    Tumor Necrosis Factor
  • TNKase

    Tenecplase
  • TNT

    Tumor Necrosis Therapy
  • TNT (Tumor Necrosis Therapy)

Therapeutic agents that target dead and dying cells found primarily at the core of the tumor.
